BrasilCineMundi – – International Coproduction Meeting aims to expand networks and business between Brazilian professionals and representatives of the international industry, facilitating connections between independent Brazilian productions and the global market through productive partnerships and exchange of information and joint actions. The program also promotes training, cooperation, exchange activities, business roundtables and awards, focusing on trends in contemporary cinema and independent production from an innovative perspective.

In its annual editions, BrasilCineMundi selects feature film projects in different stages of conception. In this edition there are 43 feature film projects, 32 of which are in the development phase (sections Horizonte, DocBrasil Meeting, Foco Minas, Paradiso Multiplica), five projects in the production phase and five projects in the finalization phase.

These projects take part in the CineMundi Lab –a training program – and co-production activities, being presented to an audience of guests representing the world audiovisual industry – producers, sales agents, distributors, specialized tutors, consultants, fund representatives and international festival programmers.

PROJECTS IN DEVELOPMENT

Horizonte (Horizon)

This section presents a selection of 10 Brazilian feature film projects in the development stage that represent the horizon of themes, diversity and creation of the Brazilian audiovisual sector. These projects participate in the CineMundi Lab and in the business roundtables (one-on-one meetings), being presented to a specialized audience of producers and representatives of the international audiovisual market interested in partnerships in co-productions. This action encourages and disseminates new talents and their inclusion in the international market.

The 10 selected projects will be evaluated by a jury composed of three professionals to choose a winning project. The award for the winning project will be the Horizonte Trophy, the Ventana Sur award and audiovisual materials and services offered by partner companies. The projects also compete for a cash prize offered by a partner program and for invitations to participate in international audiovisual market events.

DocBrasil Meeting

This section presents a selection of six Brazilian feature film projects working within the documentary genre. The proposal is to promote a space for sales, dialogue and reflection, in addition to building networks, cooperation and exchange of experiences aimed at the promotion and the dissemination of Brazilian documentary films in the international audiovisual market. These projects participate in the CineMundi Lab and in business roundtables (one-on-one meetings) aimed at a specialized audience of international professionals who work in the documentary market.

The award for the projects in this section will be composed of audiovisual materials and services offered by partner companies and invitationsto take part in international audiovisual market events.

Foco Minas (Minas Focus)

This focus features a selection of five feature-length projects. Its purpose is to expand the presence of projects originating in the state of Minas Gerais, aiming to ensure participation in the meetings and promoting audiovisual development in the state. These projects participate in the CineMundi Lab and in business roundtables (one-on-one meetings), being presented to international professionals interested in co-production.

The award for the projects in this section will be composed of audiovisual materials and services offered by partner companies and invitationsto take part in international audiovisual market events.

Paradiso Multiplica (Paradiso Multiplies)

This section presents a selection of 12 projects to receive script mentoring offered by the Paradiso Project talent team. This new action aims to expand the service provided to Brazilian projects, promoting training and contributing to their development. In addition to the access to mentoring, these projects also take part in other CineMundi Lab activities.

PROJECTS IN PRODUCTION

This category presents a selection of five feature-length projects, preferably selected in previous editions of BrasilCineMundi, and which already have raised part of the budget (or the total amount) and are in production. These projects participate in the CineMundi Lab and in business roundtables (one-on-one meetings) with international professionals interested in co-production and distribution.

Projects in this category compete for project development awards offered by partner companies and programs.

FINALIZED PROJECTS

This category features a selection of five feature films in post-production or finalized, seeking partnership with sales agents, distribution and/or national and international festivals for their premiere. These projects participate in the CineMundi Lab and in business roundtables (one-on-one meetings).

Projects in this category compete for distribution offered by a partner company.

PROGRAM

ONE-ON-ONE MEETINGS

Space for presenting projects in individual meetings with producers and professionals from the international audiovisual market.

AWARDS

The projects compete for awards consisting of services and cinematographic materials offered by partner companies, with the objective of enabling the execution of the contemplated projects, as well as invitations for events in partner international markets, aiming to expand the experience and the networking of the project producers.

CINEMUNDI LAB –TRAINING PROGRAM 2021

CineMundi Lab is a training program with the objective of investing in the development, better realization and commercialization of Brazilian feature film projects, offering to the project teams several activities with specialized professionals from the world audiovisual industry. It also has the purpose of providing conceptual and practical tools for training professionals, exchanging experiences between different agents in the audiovisual sector, generating exchange, promoting meetings and dialogues, expanding networks and global connections with the international market.

This edition brings together several actions such as a development lab, specialized consultants, script mentoring, masterclasses, workshops and panels.

DEVELOPMENT LAB

This lab is aimed at projects within theIn Development category, from Horizonte, DocBrasil Meeting and Foco Minas sections. It offers a set of activities aimed at preparing project representatives for meetings with national and international guests that will take place during BrasilCineMundi, as well as identifying and working on the strengths and points that need attention in the projects, contributing to the training of directors and producers, with the creative process and the development of the project.

The activities take place in several meetings during the month of September, before the start of the event, and include presentations and group training and individual consultancies.
