BEYOND THE MIRROR: PROGRAMMING LATIN AMERICAN FILMS IN LATIN AMERICA AND EUROPE

Film programming at festivals does not follow a univocal approach, and it depends, to a large extent, on the editorial lines of each event and local contexts, with their specific objectives and concrete contingencies. In the case of programming Brazilian and Latin American films more broadly, there are probable differences between programming them in Brazil, in other Latin American countries and in Europe. Each of these places has its particular cinematographic worlds, distances, and points of contact between cinephilias and historical perspectives that sometimes share more misunderstandings than mutual understanding. What are the most striking similarities and differences between programming a Latin American film in Latin America and in Europe? How to overcome the possibilities of bowing to a hegemonic line in the first world, without causing a shock of incommunicability between the film and its audience? What concrete examples can we consider in their transits across different continents?
